The School Games is a national scheme spearheaded by the Youth Sport Trust and funded by Sport England. It is delivered at a county level here in Merseyside by MSP (Merseyside Sports Partnership) in association with a team of School Games Organisers.
For those organisations who offer their staff the opportunity to take part in community volunteering opportunities as paid time for Corporate Social Responsibility, MSP have their School Games event coming up that they could get involved with.
It gives the ‘best of the best’ of Merseyside’s young sporting talent a chance to compete in a top quality sporting event and with character building values at the heart of the games sets them up to be well-rounded children both on and off the playing field.
The games take place over a series of dates throughout the year and we are now seeking adult volunteers to help out across two dates in July to help make this a memorable event for the children who will attend.
What dates can I volunteer on?
Wed 5th July at Wavertree Sports Park (setting up ahead of the multi-sport event day)
Thu 6th July at Wavertree Sports Park (the main multi-sport event day, where the children attend)
How many hours do I need to commit?
Ideally we’d love you to commit a half or full day, but even if you can only give a couple of hours please get in touch – as a certain supermarket always says ‘Every little helps!’
What sort of thing will I be doing?
There are various roles you can play on the day and we’ll match you to one that suits you best.
You could be:
greeting competitors
directing people around the site
assisting sports organisers in the smooth running of their sport
helping with taster sport activity
helping to provide teas and coffees for other volunteers
helping with site set up and pack down
and more besides.
What’s in it for you?
We’ll provide a volunteer lunch
You’ll get a free School Games Volunteer T-shirt
We can pay reasonable travel expenses.
For anyone who needs proof of volunteer hours we’ll provide confirmation of hours worked
There’s the chance to meet like-minded people and make new friends
Plus you’ll get a lovely warm glow knowing you’ve helped inspire a generation of young people to develop a sporting habit for life.
If you are unable to attend we will also offer briefings via email and phone.
If you are interested please get in touch via admin@merseysidesport.com including ‘School Games Volunteering’ in the subject line of your email stating your preferred date(s)/time(s) to volunteer plus your email address and phone number and we will get back to you shortly.
