Applications close at midnight 19 November 2017
Odgers Berndston have been instructed to find four new Board Members for the Law Society. These roles will sit on the new Main Board which will be established early in 2018. Hitherto there have been a number of boards reporting to the Society’s governing Council. The Society’s objective is now to create a simplified governance and management structure that allows it to coordinate the development, implementation and delivery of strategy and policy, enabling it to make and communicate decisions more quickly, setting the pace in the leadership and promotion of the profession.
The Board Members will serve a three-year term and will be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term. Two of the Board Member roles will be held by Solicitor members, with the remaining two being filled by Lay Members. A Solicitor member is anyone who has been admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales, whether or not still on the Roll or holding a Practising Certificate. He/she will work alongside the newly appointed Chair of the Main Board to ensure that the Board fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Society.
The Society is undergoing significant change, and would be particularly interested in individuals with experience of one or more of; budget and resource management, finance, regulation, risk management, and IT and systems planning, procurement and implementation.
The roles are unremunerated although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The Main Board is expected to meet at least once every eight weeks, with Board Members anticipated to spend one day per month on matters pertinent to the role.
